Oasis Circular No.: 2602

Subject: Latest Ice Condition in Northern Chinese Ports

Owing to winter in Northern China, it is expected that in the coming week, the sea ice condition in the Yellow Sea will develop further. For instance, the maximum area of floating ice in the Liaodong Bay area will reach 4050 square nautical miles, while in the northern Yellow Sea, it will be 515 square nautical miles. The floating ice areas in the Bohai Bay and Laizhou Bay will be less than 5 nautical miles.

Below is the sea ice forecast for the coming week (07-13 Feb 2026) published by the National Oceanic Observatory on 6 Feb 2025 for your easy reference:

As can be see from above, northern ports such as Yingkou, Huludao, and Dandong are subject to the ice condition.

In view of the above, we would like to remind vessels that are planning to call these ports shortly of the followings:

(1) Drain the water in the deck piping system before the vessel arrives in this area, so as to avoid possible cracking of the pipes caused by freezing.

(2) Maintain safe speed and keep a proper lookout for floating ice around the vessel when navigating in the ice area to minimize scratches or damage to the hull.

(3) When anchoring in ice area, keep checking the anchor position to avoid dragging anchor.

(4) Maintain regular check of the ice condition on the anchor chains to avoid possible loss of anchors.

We hope the above will be of assistance. If there is any query, please feel free to contact us at oasis@oasispandi.com at any time.
